Victoria Collects NOV. 16 - DEC. 30

Victoria Collects featured a wide variety of mixed media from various people of Victoria, TX.

Dawn feels like her first language was beauty.  That was how her heart was stirred to art.  Born and raised a missionary kid in the Philippines, she learned to look for it in the cracks and crevices of lives much harder than her own.  At the age of 19 she moved to the US to go to college where she learned how to find her own way to express her heart through painting.

Dallas artist Mary Tomás transforms her love of nature to her canvas’s paying special attention
to color and shape, light and shadow. Trying to push past what is literal into the feeling and
sensual world. Elements of our earthly and spiritual worlds, the human body, the space they
occupy and the effects of light always seem to capture her soul and harken to a mystical tie to
nature and an intrigue with line and form. Mary Tomás owns and operates Mary Tomás Gallery in Dallas, Texas since 1998.

Janet's work is notable for its rootednss, in both theme & palette - to South Texas, transcending local color.  She brings pieces of stories, sketches, & mythology into her work, allowing her paintings to appear realist initially, but go much deeper in perspective & expressionism.

The Nave Museum in Victoria will present an exhibit of seventy fine black-and-white photographs of historic houses by Rick Gardner, a Houston architectural photographer.  In 1975, he received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and came to the area to photograph historic houses in Victoria, Cuero, Hallettsville, Gonzales, Schulenburg, Beeville and Goliad.  These houses were about 100 years old in 1975 and the large format pictures show what they looked like then.  Built in Victorian and Neo-Classical styles, the houses have a vernacular Texas flavor. Many of the houses are still standing today.  The show opens Friday, November 16, 2017 and prints will be available for purchase.
